Case study

COO, National Law Firm

Our client had, via personal connections, identified an individual whom they wanted to hire as their new COO. However, to be sure that they were making the right decision, we were asked to find out more about them.

The individual had not worked in the legal or professional services sector before and therefore our investigations took us into a variety of other sectors including TMT, financial services, marketing services and leisure. For example, the individual had been an NED of a number of listed businesses and via talking to nomads, analysts and brokers, we were able to understand more about the person and also gain connections to those who had sat on Boards with the potential COO to learn more about their skills, motivations and ways of working.

The result of our many and varied conversations was that the individual, whilst not having fulfilled a similar role before and therefore un-proven, was very talented, hard-working, innovative and full of integrity. Our client already felt that the potential COO had transferable skills and, when combined with our due diligence, felt confident that they could make the hire, which has proved to be a great decision.
